About Our Camps

CAMP ROGER

At Camp Roger, our purpose is to give every youth a place to be their whole, unique self while taking on challenges that build self-belief. Through traditional camp experiences, horses, hiking, swimming, and challenge-by-choice adventures, campers build friendships, confidence, and adaptability in a safe and supportive community.

MILL HOLLOW

At Mill Hollow, our purpose is to create a space where youth can explore who they are and how they connect with others through nature, connection, and experiential learning. In a remote mountain setting, campers canoe the reservoir, explore the outdoors, and take on new challenges that build friendships, curiosity, confidence, and essential life skills.

Meet Our Staff

Jake Green

Director: Camp Roger

Jacob (Jake) Green first started working for the YMCA of Northern Utah in 2015 as the Archery Specialist at YMCA Camp Roger. The campers at the time most likely remember him for his “toe-shoes.” In the years since he first discovered camp he has filled in many roles at YMCA Camp Roger including Wasatch Unit Leader, Program Director/Kitchen Manager (in 2020 what a wild year,) and Assistant Director before becoming the full time Director in the fall of 2022. Although Jake discovered camp a little later in life the impact that it had on him was profound, and he stays actively engaged in the Y Overnight Camping Movement having recently helped with the Camp Inclusion Project’s work on Restorative Practices.

Jake lives around the Salt Lake Valley spending time in Layton and Lehi, and spends most of his time listening to audiobooks while driving between those cities. While it has been awhile, he truly enjoys writing in his spare time and one of his life goals is to be a published author, however he can no longer imagine a life without camp in the summer.

Cali Gurnicki

Director: Camp Mill Hollow

Growing up in Green Bay, WI, Cali Gurnicki has been a YMCA kid her whole life-- from swim lessons, working day care in high school, and a variety of seasonal camp work since 2019 that eventually led her West to Utah. After falling in love with YMCA Mill Hollow as a seasonal staff member in 2022, Cali has enjoyed being the Camp Director since the beginning of 2024.

Cali believes that at the heart of camp are the campers, connecting face to face, and finding community. In her spare time, Cali enjoys backpacking, cooking in big batches, and completing puzzles (if her dog, Moose, doesn't eat any of the pieces). She hopes that everyone can learn to live by the famous motto: "If not me, then who? If not now, then when?" When camp is out of session, Cali lives in Salt Lake City.
